My Fowlkes

This article is about my cousin Dionne Fowlkes. My first memory of Dionne is of us playing at my Great
Aunt (her Grandmother’s) retirement party. We played the entire party.I think I was 5 years old she was 9. Then after that every time I saw her somewhere we would smile and speak to one another . I always thought she had the prettiest smile I had ever seen and I would ask about her often. It wasn’t until I was in high school that we became thick as thieves. I was in the canteen at Morgan because I worked there in high school and she was attending Morgan . She saw me talking to some guys she knew so she immediately sprung into big sister mode and questioned them and me about why they were talking to her little cousin. After that her college crew of girlfriends and my high school crew went almost everywhere together. We were inseparable. There were so many things I admired about her . But the thing that stands out to me the most is simply put is everything she does , she does with excellence including loving people! From her hair to the way she dresses to her work ethic she does it with excellence.

Dionne is the Director of Sales at Aimbridge Hospitality and that role suits her well because she is full of charm and charisma. She is a mom to two beautiful children Joshua and Jordyn Bumbry who she adores immensely. You can tell that first and foremost they are her world. Dionne is a joy to everyone she comes in contact with and her quick wit certainly keeps everyone on their toes.

Dionne was the first to point out that I needed to expand my palate. Every time we would go out I would order chicken fingers or pasta Alfredo and she would poke fun at me every time and say girl you need to try something else. Dionne loves good food paired with a good wine as well as a good cocktail. And she always has a crew of people wanting to be in her company. She is truly a Maryland girl at the core and loves everything crab and seafood. But a good steak is always a treat as well.
I love my " Sister Cousin" Dionne ! We don’t get to see one another much because we live in two different states . But we are always planning spending time together at a Morgan State University Homecoming. Here’s to the stunning beautiful strong black woman you are. Happy Birthday D! Enjoy the crab cake recipe. Be sure to pair it with a delicious wine or cocktail!
